How long does probate take in Westmoreland County?
A straightforward estate with a valid will, cooperative beneficiaries and ordinary assets generally runs somewhere between nine months and a year and a half. The floor is set by the inheritance tax return, which is due nine months after death, and by the creditor notice period. What extends an estate is rarely the courthouse: it is real estate that has to be sold, a beneficiary who cannot be located, a business interest that has to be valued, or a disagreement among the family.
Do I need a lawyer for a Greensburg real estate closing?
Pennsylvania does not require one. It is worth considering when the property is coming out of an estate, when the deed description does not match the survey, when there is an easement, right of way or oil and gas reservation in the chain, or when you are selling without an agent. The title company's job is to insure the title and close the file. It does not advise either side on the terms of the deal.
