One Office, Three Jobs — and a Lot of Oil History
Venango County combines Register of Wills, Recorder of Deeds, and Clerk of Orphans' Court in one first-floor office. That combination earns its keep here: Venango estates routinely carry oil and gas royalties and severed mineral rights dating back generations, and settling them means working the estate records and the land records together — same office, same counter. There you (or your attorney) will:
- File the original will and petition for probate
- Qualify as executor or administrator — producing your Letters and short certificates

One fee note: the county put a new Register of Wills fee schedule into effect in November 2025, so confirm current figures by phone rather than trusting older references.
Opening an Estate: What to Bring
- The original will (originals, not photocopies)
- An original death certificate
- A completed petition for probate and supporting forms
- Photo ID for each personal representative
- Payment under the current (November 2025) fee schedule — confirm when you call, and order short certificates at the same visit
No video or remote qualification is published, so plan on the executor qualifying in person — we call the probate line to confirm current practice, prepare every document, and make it one trip up Route 8. Everything after that visit is handled by phone, video, and mail for our Venango County estates.
